Standard for gas engine filters
2025-03-19
I. International standards and general norms
ISO standard
ISO 16920: Performance requirements and test methods for gas engines.
ISO 10438: Gas quality index (may affect filter design)。
ISO 15500: Specification for acceptance tests of gas turbines.
ANSI/NFPA Standard (USA)
ANSI Z21.1: Common Safety Standard for domestic gas appliances.
NFPA 54: National Gas Code for the United States, which deals with installation requirements for gas pipelines and equipment.
European Standard (EN)
EN 161: Safety requirements for gas valves and accessories.
EN 676: Method of performance test for gas filters.
ATEX Directive: Requirements for explosion protection of equipment against explosive gas environments.
2. Key performance and technical requirements
Filtration accuracy
It is usually required to filter the particle size ≤ 5-50 μm (adjusted according to the engine type)。
The impurity composition in the gas type (such as natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas) must be adapted.
Material requirement
Housing: Corrosion-resistant material (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum alloy), compliant with fire protection standards (e.g. UL 94 V-0)。
Filter element: metal mesh, sintered metal or multi-layer fiber material, to withstand gas pressure and chemical corrosion.
Seal: Elastic material resistant to high temperature and gas composition (such as fluorine rubber)。
Pressure and flow
The maximum working pressure shall comply with the equipment specification (e.g., industrial grade may require 10-50 bar)。
Flow design should match gas engine power to avoid excessive pressure drop affecting efficiency.
Safety certification
Explosion-proof certification: such as ATEX (Europe), IECEx (International), UL/CSA (North America)。
Environmental certification: comply with RoHS (EU) and other hazardous substances restrictions.
3. testing and verification
Performance test
Filtration efficiency test: Simulate the interception rate in the impurity environment.
Pressure loss test: Evaluate the stability of pressure drop after prolonged use.
Life test: Durability verification under simulated conditions.
Safety test
Leakage test: The amount of high-pressure gas leakage should be lower than the specified threshold.
Flame retardant test: self-extinguishing performance of material in contact with open flame.
4.industry application differences
Domestic gas equipment
Focus on fire, leak and durability, in accordance with local building codes (e.g. GB 16691 China standard)。
Industrial gas turbines/engines
High flow rate, high pressure tolerance and filtration accuracy are emphasized, and industry standards such as API and ASME are required.
5. China's relevant standards
GB 16691: Rules for the safety administration of domestic gas burning appliances.
GB 3836: Standard for electrical equipment for use in explosive atmospheres.
GB/T 18604: Specification for design of natural gas purification plants (relating to filtration process)。
Suggestion
Clear application scenario: Select the corresponding standard according to domestic or industrial use.
Compliance certification: Ensure that the product has passed the mandatory certification of the target market (such as CE, UL)。
Regular maintenance: The filter should be replaced or cleaned regularly according to the standard to avoid the risk of performance degradation.
If you need a specific standard document, it is recommended to obtain the latest version from an official body (such as the ISO website, the National Standards Committee) or an industry certification body.
