Production Methods	Prepared from acetylene, with tetrachloroethane as a diluent and anhydrous ferric chloride as a catalyst; Alternatively, ethylene and chlorine are passed into a reaction tower to produce a mixture of tetrachloroethane and pentachloroethane, which is then cracked in the presence of a barium chloride catalyst on activated carbon to produce trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene
Applications	Used as a degreaser for metals, a solvent, and an extractant in industries such as electroplating, electrical machinery, medicine, and dry cleaning; Also used as an anesthetic and in the production of tetrachloroethylene for anthelmintic drugs
