What is Ozokerite?
2024-12-03

It has a microcrystalline structure, low hardness, and a high melting point, usually between 60 and 95°C. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, chloroform, ether, petroleum ether, turpentine, carbon disulfide, and mineral oil. It has an amorphous appearance and extremely strong lipophilicity.
The production method of ozokerite mainly adopts the refining method. The residual wax paste of petroleum purification and dewaxing is used as the raw material. It is first deasphalted by vacuum distillation and added with propane (or acetone), and then dewaxed, deoiled, and decolorized with mixed alcohol as the solvent.
Classification: According to its different causes, ozokerite is divided into primary and secondary types. Primary ozokerite is contained in oil layers or rock cracks in layers, veins, and nets; secondary ozokerite is the primary ozokerite that is weathered and eroded and accumulated in other areas in granular and blocky forms.
Grade: Ozokerite used in cosmetics can be divided into two grades, the melting point of the first grade is 7478℃, and the melting point of the second grade is 6668℃.
The main uses of ozokerite are:
1. Cosmetic industry: The first grade ozokerite can be used as a raw material for cold cream and lotion products, and the second grade can be used as an important curing agent for lipstick, hair wax, etc.
2. Other industries: It can be used as a raw material for vaseline, lubricating grease, candles, wax paper, etc.; it is also used in insulation, insulation, waterproofing, industrial coatings and medical industries. In addition, in the ink industry, ozokerite is used to make airline ticket ink, which has good wear resistance.
