Dispersant Ultra FA 4480 is a high-performance additive offered by BASF. Here is an English introduction to it:
General Properties:
It is a universal, non-ionic wetting and dispersing agent.
It is free of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in accordance with EU 2004/421 and the US-EPA Method 24, and has a low odor.
Performance Characteristics:
Excellent Pigment Wetting: It has outstanding pigment wetting properties, which are beneficial for coatings and aqueous pigment pastes. It can effectively wet pigments, making it easier to disperse them in the system.
Superior Dispersing Ability: It shows excellent wetting and dispersing properties in aqueous, binder, and solvent-free pigment pastes. This helps to achieve a uniform dispersion of pigments and improve the stability of the formulation.
Good Flow Properties: Even at high pigment load, Dispersant Ultra FA 4480 can provide outstanding flow properties, ensuring the smooth application of the coating or ink.
Color Intensity Improvement: In topcoats based on different binder types, it can improve pigment wetting, thereby increasing the gloss and color intensity of the paint, especially when combined with organic pigments.
Application Areas:
It has excellent results in water-based alkyds, polyester resins, and aqueous polyurethane emulsions.
It is well-suited for use with organic pigments and carbon black. Together with Dispersant Ultra FA 4483 (which provides excellent dispersions with inorganic pigments), they can be used to formulate a PEO-free and glycol-free universal colorant.
Dosage: The typical dosage for Dispersant Ultra FA 4480 in top-coats lies between 0.2% and 1.5%. It is recommended to be added to the paint before grinding.
