Product details
The secondary antioxidant 168 (ED) is an important additive with the following characteristics:
Chemical Properties:
Chemical name: Tris(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphite.
CAS number: 31570-04-4.
Molecular formula: C42H63O3P.
Molecular weight: 646.93 g/mol.
Physical Properties:
Appearance: White powder.
Melting point: 183 - 186 °C.
Solubility: Moderately soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform, ethyl acetate, and toluene. Insoluble in water.
Performance Features:
Synergistic effect: Works in synergy with primary antioxidants to provide enhanced protection against oxidation. It helps to scavenge peroxides and hydroperoxides formed during the oxidation process, preventing further degradation of the polymer.
Thermal stability: Contributes to the thermal stability of polymers by reducing the rate of thermal oxidation. It can withstand high processing temperatures without significant degradation.
Low volatility: Has low volatility, ensuring its effectiveness over a long period of time even at elevated temperatures.
Compatibility: Compatible with a wide range of polymers including polyolefins (polyethylene, polypropylene), styrenics (polystyrene, ABS), polyesters, and others.
Applications:
Widely used in the plastics industry for stabilizing various polymers during processing and in end-use applications. It is commonly added to polyethylene films, polypropylene fibers, and engineering plastics to improve their durability and lifespan.
Also used in rubber compounds to prevent oxidative degradation and maintain the physical properties of the rubber.
In the production of adhesives and sealants, it helps to improve the stability and shelf life of the products.
