Tinuvin® 5151 by BASF is a high-performance light stabilizer product with the following characteristics and features:
Composition and Blend:
It is a liquid blend of a hydrophilic 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-benzotriazole UV absorber (UVA) and a basic hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS). This combination provides a synergistic effect, offering enhanced protection against the harmful effects of ultraviolet light.
Performance Benefits:
Medium to Long-Term Performance and Thermal Stability: It exhibits good medium to long-term performance and excellent thermal stability, making it suitable for use in various coating systems that may be exposed to elevated temperatures.
Superior Coating Protection: The synergistic combination of the UVA and HALS in Tinuvin® 5151 imparts superior protection to coatings against issues such as gloss reduction, cracking, blistering, delamination, and color change, providing full substrate protection.
Broad Spectral Coverage: The broad UV absorbance of the used UVA in Tinuvin® 5151 makes it suitable for a wide range of coatings, including those for wood, plastics, and metal.
Applications:
Coatings: Designed to meet the high-performance and durability requirements of exterior waterborne and solventborne industrial and decorative coatings, such as in the automotive, industrial, architectural, and decorative sectors.
Adhesives and Sealants: Can also be used in adhesives and sealants to improve their UV resistance and overall performance.
Physical Properties:
It has an amber, viscous liquid appearance.
At 25°C, the kinetic viscosity is 7000 mPa·s, and the density at 20°C is 1.1 g/cm³.
It can be mixed with most coating organic solvents in a ratio greater than 50%, but its solubility in water is less than 0.01%.
